The opposition window varies by jurisdiction. In most countries it is two to three months from the date of publication. The main exceptions are the US, where the window is 30 days (extendable), and a small number of countries with longer periods such as Russia (six months) and Vietnam (11 months).

If an opposition is filed within the window, the proceedings that follow can take considerably longer. The window sets only the deadline for filing the initial notice of opposition; the resolution of contested proceedings typically takes months to years depending on the complexity of the case.
