Do I have to place the ® symbol in the top right corner?

No. Top right is the most common placement by convention, but it is not legally required. Bottom right is equally common, and some brand owners place the symbol inline with the mark itself. Any placement where the symbol is clearly associated with the mark is acceptable.

What matters legally is not where the symbol sits but whether the trademark is actually registered before it is used, and whether it is being used only in jurisdictions where the registration is held.
