Is there any specific placement I have to use for the symbol ®?

No. There are no rules mandating a specific placement for the ® symbol. The USPTO advises placing it "anywhere around the trademark." Most trademark owners use upper-right or lower-right corner placement as a matter of convention, but either is acceptable and both are equally effective legally.

The practical requirement is that the placement makes the association between the symbol and the mark clear to anyone seeing it. Placing the ® near a different element of the design from the registered mark would be misleading and should be avoided.
