Is the trademark registration fee a one-time thing?

No. The initial registration fee covers the first 10-year validity period. Renewal fees must be paid every 10 years to keep the trademark active. There is no limit on the number of renewals.

In the US, an additional Declaration of Use must be filed and paid for between the 5th and 6th year after registration. All other jurisdictions require only the periodic renewal fee.
