Do capital letters matter when trademarking a word?

No. Wordmarks are not case-sensitive. A registration for "LION" protects the same text as a registration for "lion" or "Lion"; the IP office considers all capitalizations of the same word to be confusingly similar.

When submitting the application, it is recommended to write the mark as you actually use it commercially, but the choice of capitalization does not affect the examination outcome or the scope of protection granted.
