Do I need a lawyer to file my trademark?

A lawyer is not legally required in most jurisdictions if you are a citizen or resident filing in your own country. The main exception is the US, where foreign-domiciled applicants must use a licensed US attorney, and the EU, where non-EU/EEA applicants must appoint a representative.

That said, working with a trademark attorney is advisable. The most common causes of avoidable refusals are errors in the goods and services list, failure to identify conflicting marks before filing, and inadequate responses to office actions. An attorney with trademark experience reduces all of these risks.
