A trademark assignment is a legal document used to transfer the ownership of a trademark. The document identifies the current and new owners and outlines information on the specific trademark(s) being transferred.

Assignments can transfer all rights from one party to the other (a complete transfer) or specific trademark rights , such as use in a particular territory or class (a partial transfer). Once signed by both parties, the assignment must be recorded with the relevant IP office to update the register and make the new ownership official.
