If I need to limit classes or item on my trademark application, do I have to submit a new one?

No. Limiting the classes or goods and services listed in a pending application is permitted without filing a new application. This can be done by submitting an amendment to the goods and services list, removing specific items or an entire class.

Limiting the scope is a one-way change: items or classes can be removed but not added back. The amendment can be made at any stage before registration, including in response to an office action or opposition. After registration, classes can be removed through a partial surrender filed with the IP office.
