The ideal time to set up trademark monitoring is right after filing your application. If the registration is successful, your rights begin from the filing date, not the registration date. Monitoring from the filing date ensures you do not miss a conflicting application during the opposition window while your own mark is still being examined.

Just keep in mind that if your application is still pending and there is a meaningful risk of refusal, the cost of a monitoring subscription may not be fully worth it. Starting monitoring immediately after filing is the strongest approach; starting after registration is confirmed is a reasonable alternative if budget is a concern.
