Is it possible to transfer the ownership of a trademark?

Yes. Trademark ownership can be transferred to a different owner. It’s a standard procedure carried out through a trademark assignment, which is a legal document signed by both the current owner (assignor) and the new owner (assignee), and then recorded with the mark’s IP office.

In the US, a distinction applies to intent-to-use applications: these cannot generally be transferred before a Statement of Use is filed, except in the context of a transfer of the entire business associated with the mark. Registered trademarks can be transferred without restriction.
