If you file a trademark application in the EU, your brand won't be protected in Switzerland since Switzerland is not a member state of the EU. If a third party is copying your brand in Switzerland, your EU registration isn't sufficient to protect your brand. Switzerland has its own IP office, with which you can file an application.

If you have a large customer base all over Europe and not just the EU, it might be beneficial to register both an EU and a Swiss trademark. The registration process in Switzerland is very similar to the one in the EU, and after successful registration, your trademark will be protected in Switzerland as well.
