I have a trademark registered in Canada and the United States. What is the best way for expanding this protection to the UK and Europe?

For two specific jurisdictions, filing direct applications with the UKIPO (for the UK) and the EUIPO (for all 27 EU member states) is the most straightforward approach. Both can be filed simultaneously.

If your Canadian or US trademark application was filed within the last six months, you can claim Paris Convention priority and use that earlier filing date as the priority date in the UK and EU applications.

Your existing Canadian or US trademark can also serve as the basic mark for a Madrid System international application through WIPO, which may be more cost-efficient if you also want to add other countries beyond the UK and EU at the same time.
